Presentation

The Hôtel de la Poste overlooks Boulevard Clémenceau, a two-minute walk from the Hospices de Beaune and their glazed-tile roof. The blond stone façade, a legacy of a 19th-century coaching inn, is immediately recognizable; it was completely reimagined during a renovation completed in 2024.

Push open the door and the lobby surprises with its black-and-white checkerboard tile floor and deep red sofas. The décor plays on Art Deco lines and refined materials, without losing that slightly old-fashioned charm that has made the house’s reputation for more than twenty years.

On the ground floor, the restaurant Le Bouillon serves traditional Burgundy cuisine—eggs in meurette sauce, beef bourguignon, snails—with a menu drawing heavily on the region’s wines. One regret is the absence of half-bottles for smaller appetites. In fine weather, the terrace overlooking the inner courtyard makes it possible to dine in peace, away from the bustle of the boulevard.

Upstairs, the thirty-six rooms and three apartments feature custom furnishings, exposed beams in some, and views of the garden or the old ramparts in others. The bedding has been carefully chosen, the bathrooms completely renovated, with walk-in showers and toiletries included. One drawback: some street-facing rooms let in the evening activity from the boulevard, and the shutters do not always fully block out the morning light. Sensitive sleepers would do well to request a room facing the garden or the ramparts, quieter and darker at dawn.

In the morning, breakfast is served buffet-style from seven to ten, with homemade jams, bread from a Beaune baker, and organic or local products prominently displayed. It can also be brought to your room, for an extra charge.

Back down on the ground floor, the bar opens onto a cozy lounge, deep armchairs, a billiards table, and Burgundy wines by the glass. It is where the evening ends, a glass of Pommard or Meursault in hand, before heading back upstairs to bed.

The location does the rest of the work: the Moutarderie Fallot is just steps away, the Château de Meursault and the Domaine de Pommard are only a few kilometers away, and the Burgundy Wine Route starts almost at the hotel’s doorstep.

One last tip, gleaned at reception: ask for breakfast at nine rather than eight, as the room clears out a little and you can enjoy the buffet more easily without queuing for the homemade jams.
