The Beaune Hôtel is located just a few minutes’ walk from the ramparts of Beaune, in that stretch of suburb where the town is just beginning to turn into vineyards. People often arrive here after a day of wine tasting along the Wine Route, on foot or by bike, with the simple idea of dropping their bags near the center without being right in the middle of it.

The inner courtyard sets the tone from the moment you enter. Flower-filled and quiet, with that distinctive light found in Burgundy courtyards. Seen from the street, the façade remains understated, almost ordinary, but the atmosphere changes completely once inside. It quickly becomes clear that most of the twenty-odd rooms overlook this space rather than the street.

The rooms have been renovated in light, understated tones, with beds measuring 160 or 180 centimeters depending on the category. Air conditioning is available in most of them, but not all: something to check when booking if you’re traveling in the height of summer, simply by requesting an air-conditioned room.

For families or groups of four, a suite is available on the first floor. There is no elevator in the property, which is worth noting for heavy luggage or reduced mobility.

In the morning, a veranda serves as the breakfast room in good weather. The pastries arrive still warm, the jams taste of the region, and coffee is sipped slowly while the light filters through the windows. Nothing extraordinary on paper, but everything is fresh.

A little farther into the hotel, a wine cellar stores a selection of local vintages, to be enjoyed on site or taken away, with bottles neatly packed in a carton for the road.

Parking is handled effortlessly: a closed private garage accommodates cars, and a locked bicycle room (quite rare in Beaune) takes care of two-wheelers. Pets are accepted for an additional fee.

Rated two stars, the property makes no attempt to be anything else: it is a family hotel, run as such, where hospitality often matters more than décor.

One final tip: ask for breakfast on the veranda rather than in the dining room, even if it rains. The view over the courtyard is worth it, coffee in hand, around eight o’clock.
