Le Central Boutique Hôtel
Hotel-restaurant 3-star in Beaune
Presentation
The Central Boutique Hôtel has stood since the 16th century facing the Hospices de Beaune, in an old coaching inn whose thick walls can still be sensed beneath the current decor. The façade does not try to catch the eye; it simply waits in the middle of the cobblestones of the historic center, between two wine cellars and a bakery. You come on foot, the car stays in the private garage upon arrival, and Beaune can be crossed entirely in a short half-hour walk.
Pushing the door open, you first notice the pastel shades covering the old stone. A retro-lined armchair, a contemporary canvas hung just beside it, soft lighting even in the middle of the afternoon. Nothing shouts, everything settles gently.
The rooms, about twenty spread over several floors, embrace a clean and chic style. A wardrobe, a desk, a private bathroom where the bathtub sometimes gives way to a rainfall shower. The hairdryer is tucked away in a drawer, air conditioning is adjusted on request. Mineral water is offered on the welcome tray, a detail that matters after a day spent among the vineyards. Some rooms face directly onto the square, with a view of the carousel turning in front of the Hospices: convenient for following the activity without leaving the room.
On the ground floor, the bar fills a good part of the day. Cozy, a little dark, it is the place to settle in for a glass of Burgundy wine, a beer, or simply a coffee. In summer, a few dishes round out the menu. Right next door, Club 1818 changes face depending on the time: a quiet work lounge in the afternoon, it turns in the evening into a small stage, with a pianist on the 1907 Pleyel, a jazz band, sometimes a wine professional setting up a tasting. This shifting atmosphere is part of the house’s charm, even if it will require a little more indulgence from anyone looking for complete silence: in that case, it is better to book a room facing the courtyard rather than the square.
Breakfast, continental and made up of local products, is not included in the room rate. An extra charge that is justified by the freshness of the bread, delivered each morning by the neighborhood bakery, and by the option to enjoy it in the dining room, on the terrace, or in the inner courtyard. For those who prefer to go out, Dame Tartine by Edgar, the house restaurant, is about fifty meters away, right in front of the Hospices. It serves simple regional cuisine, tartines on organic bread, indoors or under the arcades of the French quarter.
In the lounge, there is a library of comic books and international novels, foosball, and a retro arcade cabinet for fans of video games from another era. Enough to occupy a rainy late afternoon without leaving the hotel.
On the practical side, a valet service accompanies the private garage, bicycle rental makes it easy to reach the Burgundy Wine Route, and the multilingual staff are happy to find a hidden gem or book a cellar visit. Beaune train station is one kilometer away, about a fifteen-minute walk.
One last detail for the morning: the bar already serves coffee at 7:30 a.m., when breakfast opens, well before the square truly wakes up. Enough to get a head start on the day, with a notebook on the table, before the first groups arrive in front of the Hospices.

- Renovated bathroom, modern. Good-quality bedding, we slept well. Attentive staff from start to finish of the stay.
- On-site parking means you do not have to drive around the historic center. Location right next to the Hospices, everything is done on foot afterward.
