Best Western Plus Au Grand Saint Jean
Hotel 4-star in Beaune
Presentation
Best Western Plus Au Grand Saint Jean is located at 18 Rue du Faubourg Madeleine, in Beaune, in the district of the same name. The Hospices are a five-minute walk away, and the TER station is less than ten minutes away. It is easy to reach by car, via the A6 from Paris or Lyon, or via the A31 from Dijon, and the reception, open day and night, takes over as soon as you step through the door.
The private, enclosed, and secure parking lot accommodates vehicles for an additional eight euros per night. There is also free public parking two minutes away on foot, at Place Madeleine, for those who prefer to leave their car elsewhere. Nothing surprising in the very center of town, but it is useful to know before you arrive.
One hundred and two rooms are spread over three floors, air-conditioned, with comfortable bedding and a courtesy tray. Connecting doors link some of them, which is convenient for larger families. Two junior suites, more spacious, have recently joined the room list, alongside four rooms designed for accessibility, available on direct request at reception.
The decor changes tone with the seasons. Warm tones in autumn, lighter touches in spring: a discreet choice, inherited from the renovation carried out in 2023, which avoids overdoing it.
On the ground floor, the breakfast buffet opens at seven and closes at ten. Assorted breads, still-warm pastries, cheeses, jams, hot or cold drinks: enough to keep you going through the morning before a stroll through the vineyards or a visit to the Hospices. There is an extra charge to enjoy it, but the buffet remains generous, not to mention the minutes.
The bar, also on the ground floor, is ideal for a drink at the end of the day. The billiard room, more discreet, attracts a few guests after dinner, and a room equipped with an overhead projector makes it possible to host a small group, for a meeting tucked in between two appointments.
At reception, the staff speaks French and English. You can ask for a table in town, a taxi, a tasting at one of the nearby estates, or a wake-up call at a precise time if you do not trust your phone. Pets are accepted, for a fee of ten euros per night.
Around the hotel, Beaune is best explored on foot: the Hospices and their glazed roofs, the Caves Patriarches, then the vineyards of the Côte d'Or, which you can cross by bike to reach a nearby village. On very hot days, a natural pool in the area offers a chance to cool off, far from the July crowds.
One last detail for early risers: the buffet opens exactly at seven, and the first pastries are still warm if you go down within the next fifteen minutes.
Summary of a few positive reviews read on the Web
- A five-minute walk from the Hospices, impossible to get lost. We left the car in the parking lot and did everything on foot for three days.
- Spacious room with a really comfortable bed. The decor varies from one room to another, which is a pleasant surprise.
- Quick check-in, no waiting on arrival. The person at reception recommended a restaurant two streets away, very handy for the first evening.
- Enclosed and secure on-site parking, useful so you do not have to look for a space in town in the evening. A bit expensive, but you sleep peacefully.
- Effective air conditioning, very useful in the middle of summer. The room stayed cool even in the late afternoon.
- Clean and well-equipped bathroom, hairdryer that really works. Baby cot provided on request for our one-year-old daughter.
